The world is watching the growing crisis in Palestine and Israel this May (2021), as new outbursts of violence, rockets and bombings spread throughout historic Palestine. The global community, including Canada are speaking out about their concerns for this recent rise in violence.
End the suffering of Gaza: Canada’s immediate and long-term role
“We want this siege on Gaza to be over to be able to move freely and practice our rights in movement, travel, students to study outside Gaza, patients receive their medical care… In addition [we want]to enjoy the basic services such as electricity, clean water, internet and all these basic services," Mahmoud Alhalimi, Program Coordinator at Near East Council of Churches (NECC), which receives support from Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
No Way to Treat a Child
Every year, the Israeli military prosecutes hundreds of Palestinian children from the occupied West Bank in military courts. At any one time, more than 300 children – some as young as 12 years of age – are held in military detention. They are mostly charged with throwing stones.
54 years of occupation is enough
Everyone needs a home — where families are safe and secure, basic needs are met, where people can come and go freely and imagine a future. But that is not the reality for Palestinians — or even for some Israelis. Israel's military occupation of the Palestinian territories makes life insecure for both peoples.
