Help MCC warm hearts around the world by collecting 6,500 comforters for distribution to people displaced by disaster or conflict.
JOIN US for the first Great Winter Warm-up in Winnipeg at North Kildonan MB Church on January 18, 2020. Join us for a day of...
COMFORTER TYING for MCC's international relief efforts when disaster or conflict displace people from their homes and community. Read how relief kits and comforters get to where they're most needed.
FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY - Whether you're a seasoned sewist or new to the world of comforter making, there will be an opportunity for people of all ages and skill levels to get involved.
Comforter tying involves knotting together the three layers of a comforter – the flannel backing, the quilt batting and the fabric top - with crochet cotton. Comforters are often made from pieces of scrap or recycled fabric sewn together in a colourful checkered pattern. No sewing experience or sewing machines are required for comforter tying.
Young children are welcome! There will be activities available in the foyer for younger children. Comforter-tying is recommended for children aged 10 and older but participation is at the discretion of the caregiver. Comforter-tying involves using a needle and crochet cotton and not all children may find the task easy. Child-minders are not available at this event so caregiver-monitored participation is required at all times.
MENNONITE FOOD - Tea, coffee, treats and lunch featuring some classic Mennonite food including faspa, platz and bienenstich.
Join us for a full day of comforter making, food and fun while we raise blankets and funds for families and vulnerable populations who have been uprooted by disaster and conflict. Read about MCC's disaster response here.
