Event description:Four years of successes and challenges as Special Rapporteur

Canadian law professor Michael Lynk was named UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in 2016. Part of his responsibilities lie in providing twice-yearly reports to the UN on the human rights situation in the occupied territories. In this 90 minute webinar, OFIP will have an informal conversation with Professor Lynk about his work. How he does it? What has he found? What are the successes he can point to? What are the obstacles facing him? Professor Lynk will make a short presentation about his most recent report to the UN and then face questions from an OFIP panel and the audience.

Michael Lynk associate professor of law at Western University in London, Ontario, is the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

OFIP panelists:

Rebekah Sears 

Rebekah is the Policy Analyst with Mennonite Central Committee Canada’s Ottawa Office. She has visited Palestine and Israel, including the West Bank and Gaza on several occasions and regularly connects with staff and local partners in the region.

Eman Ayyoub.

Eman is a Canadian citizen of Palestinian origin. Her family was forced to flee Palestine in 1947/48. She has a degree from a Canadian university in Engineering Physics and works with a consulting firm in Canada.

David Halton. 

David is a retired journalist. He was reporting from Jerusalem for the CBC during the 6 day war in 1967. Other assignments included Moscow and Washington. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Ottawa Forum on Israel/Palestine.
