There are ten MCC Thrift Shops in BC and they are a vital part of our ministry. The Thrift Shops sell donated clothing, books, furniture and other items in order to raise income for the ministry of MCC BC. The shop is a ministry in and of itself, providing low cost goods to people in our community as well as providing international and local aid. Thrift Shops also make a valuable contribution to good stewardship and a healthy environment by recycling items that might otherwise be thrown away. They also provide a sense of community to volunteers and the people we serve through social interaction in a caring environment.
The successful candidate will process and price various categories of donations and assist with the merchandising of product onto the sales floor. They will assist on the retail floor with customer service and operate the cash register regularly. They will also help with receiving on donations as needed. This position reports to the Manager of the Shop.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) for up to a possible 16 weeks, requiring flexibility to work on Saturdays.
This position is subject to government funding under the Canada Summer Jobs Program. All candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
