Arise is a supportive community for women who have experienced abuse, addiction and imprisonment. We have a large range of opportunities based on one’s level of comfort and interest:.

Skills/ Knowledge/ Attitude Requirements:

  • Experience working with marginalized individuals an asset
  • Understanding of the correctional system an asset
  • Understanding of mental health and addiction an asset
  • Driver’s license an asset
  • Compassion and empathy required
  • Police check for vulnerable sector verification required and/or any clearances required by Correctional Services Canada
  • Understanding of the unique needs of women an asset

Tasks and Responsibilities:

We have a large range of opportunities based on one’s level of comfort and interest:

  • Participate in a weekly support group and build relationships with participants
  • Driving women to health care appointments, church services and gatherings, special events such as retreats
  • Ministry of Friendship – mentoring and meeting one on one with women
  • Joining a circle that meets once a week to support a woman on an ongoing basis
  • Prayer for the needs of specific women
  • Cooking, baking for families and for our quarterly retreats

 Time Commitment:

  • Number of hours per week are flexible
  • 1-2 years preferred for ministry of friendship 

Training and Development offered: 

  • Position specific orientation will be provided
  • Job shadowing and training meetings offered as available
  • Other training and skills development
