Purpose of Assignment: The fabric cutter is responsible for cutting fabric squares for use in comforters which are made for overseas relief aid.

Geographic Location: 50 Kent Avenue, Kitchener (an at home arrangement can be considered after suitable training, if desired)

Skills/ Knowledge/ Attitude Requirements:

  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of different fabric types (eg. Cotton, cotton blends, knits, weaves, etc.)
  • Strong hand/arm strength
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Willing to work in a public environment with others
  • Ability to be self-directed
  • Excellent hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills needed

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Iron fabric as needed
  • Cut fabric accurately and neatly into 10 ½” and/or 8 ½” squares using a rotary cutter
  • Sort and discard unsuitable fabrics

 

Time Commitment

  • 2 – 8 hours per week
  • Ongoing, but minimum 4 – 6 month commitment preferred,
  • Available for high school community service hours

Training and Development offered

  • Position specific orientation will be provided
  • Job shadowing and training meetings offered as available
  • Policy and procedure manual available at all times
