  • Friendly and engaging personal style, strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds required
  • Tact and diplomacy required
  • Ability to work as part of a team required
  • Healthy balance of patience and energy required
  • Ability to lift and move furniture and boxes/ bags of donations required
  • Ability to work quickly when there are multiple tasks at hand required
  • Ability to communicate the MCC story, shop guidelines and procedures required

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Receive donations from donors, thanking each person with sincerity
  • Be aware of donation guidelines on what items are acceptable to receive according to health and safety standards as well as resale ability; relay this information to donors
  • Share information about the shop and the work of Mennonite Central Committee
  • Be responsible for the initial sort of the donations
  • Handle complaints with care
  • Explain the shop operations and how MCC uses the money raised

Time Commitment:

  •  3 or 4 hour shifts weekly or monthly
  • 6 months minimum preferred 
  • Available for high school community service hours 


Training and Development offered:

  • Position specific orientation will be provided
  • Job shadowing and training meetings offered as available
  • Other training and skills development
  • Policy and procedure manual available at all times


  • Volunteer liability coverage for all volunteers
