The primary role of this position is to work on the Quilt Show and Craft Sale Committee to collect donations for Prize baskets for the Player’s Choice Raffle held during the annual event. The committee works with the MCC Material Resources Volunteer Coordinator and a member of MCC’s Communication and Donor Relations department.
The volunteer position involves visiting businesses to solicit merchandise or certificates for services which can be part of the prize baskets. The position would also involve putting together the baskets in an attractive manner and making sure that there are sufficient tickets for the draw.
Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Good organizational skills
Good oral and written communication
The volunteer would be expected to sit on the planning committee and attend Monday morning meetings about 3 or 4 times in six months (January to June).
Trips around Winnipeg and Southern Manitoba in March and April would take three or four days. A day or two would be necessary to put together the baskets just before the event.
MCC Manitoba Material Resources Centre
The material Resources Centre annually holds a Quilt show and Craft sale at the end of May (three days) to raise money for an MCC project which helps people improve their quality of life. For the past three years the Show and Sale has sponsored an HIV/AIDS program in Zambia partnering with the Brethren in Christ Church there. These sales have been generating between $12,000 and $20,000.
The Material Resources Centre is a collection point for Manitobans to donate various supplies to MCC which can be sent to people in need. It is also a place where people come to learn about the work that MCC is doing around the world. The Centre also recycles and generates income for MCC projects.
