We work directly with people impacted by poverty, and find ways that government policies and programs can be improved to reduce poverty and increase the level of dignity and respect for people living in poverty. Grounded in this work, we advocate for people in poverty by providing a clear voice to provincial government.
We see the need for:
- social assistance to be reorganized so that all people in Ontario receive an income sufficient to meet their basic needs.
- a minimum wage high enough that a person with full-time employment does not have to live in poverty.
- more affordable housing and supportive services to prevent poverty and decrease the negative impacts that poverty has on our entire community. We also see the need to shift social attitudes towards our neighbours who have no home.
As citizens in a democratic country, we recognize our responsibility to speak to governments in support of public policies that help assure everyone can live a life with dignity and free of poverty.
