MCC Maritimes supports local partners in programs that empower children, youth and adults and invest in healthy and sustainable communities. For example in Sydney Mines, NS we support Community C.A.R.E.S. Youth Outreach, an organization that provides support for youth and young adults as well as skills, employment and leadership training.

There need to be more places like this. Because most everybody feels like they have nobody that understands them.”

—Fawn Burton, former Community C.A.R.E.S. participant, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton

We are available to offer resources and speak or give workshops in churches, schools, universities or with other groups about investing in sustainable livelihoods. Please contact us at maritimes@mcccanada.ca.

Homelessness Prevention and Outreach Program

To experience a life of homelessness is to experience a life of rejection. MCC's Homelessness Prevention and Outreach Program is working on the front lines of the homelessness crisis in the Fraser Valley, providing a holistic response to the issues that homeless individuals face every day.

We recognize men and women who are homeless as people first, not defined by their circumstances, but by their humanity. Through our

  • rent bank program
  • weekly meals
  • and partnerships with other local community services,

we walk alongside our homeless neighbours on a journey toward wholeness, creating an environment of inclusion and community.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor….~Jesus

What is good news for the poor? Affordable housing, quality relationships, wages that sustain a dignified life, adequate social assistance, a valued voice in society…and much more. We respond to poverty by walking alongside marginalized people with compassion and caring.
