People in the Philippines continue to rebuild after Typhoon Haiyan devastated homes, schools and livelihoods commonly based on farming and fishing. The November 2013 typhoon damaged 1.1 million homes and traumatized entire communities.

In addition to an initial response of emergency food and household supplies, MCC is using more than $4 million of donations to:

  • Build typhoon-resistant housing and provide basic kitchen supplies
  • Rebuild a school
  • Provide food-for-work and cash-for-work payment to community members who help with construction
  • Help pastors and community leaders deal with their trauma so they can help others
  • Train community leaders to prepare for the next disaster, so that its impact is not as devastating
