Participants gather at the peace house

We were glad to have a great group of people at the first Peace House event!

About 16 young adults and MCC staff gathered for an evening of tasty lattes and engaging conversations around refugee resettlement. Nicholas talked about the global refugee situation and Canada's response in the form of private sponsorship. Allison led us in an exhilarating game of Kahoot to learn some numbers and facts specific to the refugee crisis. And Orlando shared from his experience entering Canada as a refugee from El Salvador, with important reminders to be kind and generous with our newcomer neighbours.

Peace House began with the vision to create space for young adults to consider peace and justice issues. Each month, there will be a different theme (such as restorative justice, gender, Indigenous realities, homelessness, climate, food security, and so on) with different ways to engage these topics (such as guest speakers, live music, documentaries, discussion, poetry, arts, cross-cultural experiences, and so on).

We hope this will be a welcoming space of connecting and conversation, and a peaceful place to connect, learn and grow together.
