The premiere global body for maintaining international peace and the most powerful United Nations body is the UN Security Council and its 15 members – able to impose sanctions, mandate cease fires, deploy UN troops, and assess threats to international peace and security in actions with binding power (yet only when the “Permanent Five” members or “P5” agree). MCC actively participates in the NGO Working Group on the Security Council, a group of 39 major NGOs which meets regularly with Security Council ambassadors as well as high UN officials. Recent meetings have included ambassadors from Norway, Ireland, France, and Brazil. Please pray for MCC and peer agencies as we raise critical issues.
