Mennonite Central Committee is responding to extensive flooding in the Khan Younis area of the Gaza Strip. Torrential rains have prompted a state of emergency, and more than 40,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. Power plants and water pumps have been shut down and the United Nations Works and Relief Agency, which is responsible for Palestinian refugees, is struggling to provide water, sanitation and hygiene services.

MCC is working with its partner, Culture and Free Thought Association, on an emergency response that could include assistance with shelter, food and items such as fuel. MCC will release more information as our plans are finalized.
