Only $5,000 more needed to provide relief to over 10,000 displaced Syrians

As violence in Syria continues, families are being forced to flee their homes and seek shelter in nearby towns. These families need safety, shelter, and basic essentials.
You can help MCC respond with compassion to those who are suffering through the SOS for Syria campaign.

“Through the SOS for Syria campaign, we are excited to have such a tangible way to reach out and help the many people whose lives have been turned upside down by war,” said Allan Reesor-McDowell, MCC Ontario’s Community Engagement Coordinator. “For people who have lost everything, the impact of even small gifts can be tremendous – providing life-essential items, but also much needed emotional support to people who are desperate to know that somebody cares.”

If MCC’s $100,000 fundraising goal is met by June 7, SOS for Syria will provide life-changing essentials—like towels, bandages, soap and shampoo—to more than 10,000 displaced children and adults in Syria. To date, more than $95,000 has been raised to support this effort, from more than 300 donors.

“I am continually amazed at people’s generosity,” said Reesor-McDowell, “and I am hopeful that the donations needed to reach our $100,000 goal will come in over the coming weeks before the shipment of relief kits on June 12.”

SOS for Syria donors will receive an invite to MCC Ontario’s warehouse in Kitchener to help pack the relief kits being shipped directly to Syria. The kits are being assembled June 10th – 11th and the container will be transported to the ship on June 12th.
